Many of the species names listed are self-explanatory but some groupings may benefit from some clarification.

• Birds of Prey & Owls includes species such as Kestrels, Hawks, Falcons etc as well as Owls.
• Corvids means Crows, Magpies, Jackdaws, Jays, Rooks, Ravens and Choughs.
• Gamebirds means birds which have been released for shooting (and thus are not strictly speaking UK wildlife). These include Grouse, Pheasants and Partridges.
• Garden Birds are the little birds you would normally see in a garden such as Thrushes, Tits, Sparrows, Starlings, Woodpeckers etc.
• Gulls aka Seagulls
• Invertebrates refers to insects like Butterflies, Moths, Bees, Spiders, Snails etc
• Marine Mammals refers to mammals which live in the sea such as Whales, Dolphins, Seals, Porpoises etc
• Migratory Birds covers Swifts, House Martins, Sand Martins and Swallows.
• Mustelids refers to non-badger mustelids i.e. Stoats, Weasels, Polecats, Otters and Pine Martens.
• Reptiles and Amphibians includes Lizards, Snakes, Frogs, Toads and Newts.
• By Seabirds we mean any birds usually resident at sea (except Gulls) e.g. Puffins, Guillemots, Terns, Shags, Cormorants, Gannets etc)
• Waterfowl (Large) refers to larger inland water birds such as Swans, Geese and Herons.
• Waterfowl (Small) refers to smaller inland water birds such as Ducks, Coots, Moorhen, Grebes etc.
